  • Description

The abandoned sanatorium "Shakhtar" in Tskhaltubo is one of the most famous abandoned buildings in the region. Built between 1951 and 1953, it was intended for employees of the coal industry and was sometimes called the "coal miners' sanatorium". Subsequently, the sanatorium turned out to be abandoned and as of 2021 it is in private ownership, which complicates access to the complex.

The Shakhtar sanatorium is of interest to architecture lovers and researchers of abandoned places due to its spacious halls in the left wing and the turret in the right wing. The massive modern building, once a resting place for workers, is now a unique monument to the past with many rooms and corridors that evoke the atmosphere of a bygone era.

Visitors may be interested in this site for photo ops, research into the history of the region, or simply out of curiosity. However, it should be taken into account that entry into the resort is difficult due to its private status, and permission from the owner must be obtained to legally access the building.
