State professional drama theater named after Vazha-Pshavela in Telavi
- Description
The State Professional Drama Theater named after Vazha-Pshavela in Telavi has a rich history and is an important cultural center of the Caucasus region. Founded in the second half of the 18th century, it is considered the oldest professional theater in Transcaucasia and Georgia. In 1981, a new theater building was opened, designed for 700 seats, designed by architect Grigol Dzhabua.
The theater building is distinguished by a rich interior and a spacious foyer, in which a historical monument is preserved - the remnant of the garden of King Heraclius. Highly artistic panels and ceramic high reliefs decorate the theater's interiors, creating a unique atmosphere. The facade of the building is decorated with stained glass windows through which the foyer is visible, which is an original solution for the architecture of that time.
On May 31, 1990, the Telavi Theater was renamed in honor of the famous Georgian classic writer Vazha-Pshavela, emphasizing its cultural and historical significance. For more than 250 years of its existence, the theater has significantly contributed to the development of Georgian culture and art.
Visiting the Telavi Drama Theater named after Vazha-Pshavela will be interesting both for history and architecture buffs and for connoisseurs of theatrical art. The theater continues to follow its traditions and actively participates in the cultural life of the region, offering viewers a varied repertoire of performances.
