Akhmeteli Theater metro station. Akhmeteli-Varketili line of the Tbilisi metro
- Description
The Akhmeteli Theater metro station, located on the Akhmeteli-Varketili line of the Tbilisi metro, is a unique combination of cultural heritage and modern urban transport. This station, named after the famous Georgian playwright and theater director Alexander Akhmeteli, was originally named "Gldani" after the area it serves. The name was changed to "Akhmeteli Theater" in 1992, giving the station special historical significance.
The station's architecture combines classical aesthetics and modern elements. Wide columns finished in light marble, combined with gray granite floors, create a spacious and bright space. After reconstruction in 2007 and 2017, the station regained its original appearance, while the lighting system was improved and the original decorative elements were restored.
Today the station operates with one northern exit, while the planned southern exit has not been completed. However, in 2022, plans were announced for its completion, as well as adaptation of the station’s infrastructure for the needs of people with disabilities.
The station's operating hours include daily service from 6:00 to 00:00, with a train interval of about 2 minutes during rush hour and about 10 minutes in the evening.
The fare payment system in the Tbilisi metro is focused on maximum passenger convenience. Plastic MetroMoney cards are used, which can be purchased at any station. These cards, in addition to the metro, are also valid on buses and on cable cars in the city of Tbilisi, but not on the funicular. The cost of one trip is 50 tetri, and the cost of the card itself is 2 lari (refundable deposit), and one card can be used by several people.
Akhmeteli Theater station is not just a transport hub, but also an important part of the city’s history, reflecting the cultural heritage and dynamics of Tbilisi’s development.
Daily from 6:00 to 00:00
