Abandoned headquarters of the Transcaucasian Military District - concrete silence on the slope of Vake
- Description
The headquarters of the Transcaucasian Military District (KZakVO) stood along the Vake-Saburtalo road — a strategic hub of the Soviet military system in the region. After Russian troops withdrew from Georgia in 2006, the building was abandoned. For several years, over 700 families of refugees from Abkhazia lived there before being evicted in 2010. Since then, the site has suffered looting and decay.
In 2021, the Tbilisi City Hall began demolition. The project was scheduled for completion by October 2022, but the future of the land remains uncertain. What once symbolized military control now stands as a hollow monument of a bygone era.
How to find it: located on the slope between Vake and Saburtalo districts, the partially demolished concrete shell is still visible from the highway.
