Atmosphere under pressure - an abandoned thermal pressure chamber and traces of the scientific era

The thermobaric chamber is part of a research complex connected to the atmospheric physics department of the Tbilisi Institute of Geophysics. It is located at 8 Bidzina Kvernadze Street in the Saburtalo district.

Once, the facility simulated extreme temperature and barometric conditions. Today, the space feels frozen in time: workstations are covered with plastic sheets, early 2000s computers stand beside Soviet-era equipment. But the airtight seal is broken, devices are damaged, and control panels are dismantled.

At times, it seems like someone might still be there. In 2021, a kind-looking man was spotted inside; by 2023, the site was surrounded by fencing and surveillance cameras. A guard is present during the day, while at night — silence.

How to find it: the building is accessible from Bidzina Kvernadze Street. The facade is hidden by trees and a metal fence, but the chamber is visible from the back alley.
