A Summer Terrace That Fled Away in Time – The Abandoned Restaurant “Iori”
- Description
The Iori Restaurant was built in 1963 according to the design of the architect V. Sh. Aleksi-Meskhishvili and became an adornment of the Tbilisi Sea coast.
The building in the late Soviet modernism style was distinguished by light lines, open spaces and a magnificent summer terrace overlooking the reservoir. Mosaic panels, concrete wings and glass halls made this place iconic for its era.
After the collapse of the USSR, the restaurant was closed and the building fell into disrepair. Today, it has become a point of attraction for photographers, researchers and fans of urban romanticism.
Despite the devastation, the architecture of Iori is still impressive. Nature absorbs concrete, but the light penetrating through the remains of the roof paints a poem from this ruin.
How to find: The building is located on the shore of the Tbilisi Sea. A path along the water leads to it, opening a panorama of the ruins of the restaurant - the building is visible from afar due to its expressive geometry.
