Tbilisi's Oldest Cinema - History, Style and Revival of Apollo
- Description
Cinema Apollo is located at David Agmashenebeli Avenue, 135 in the Chugureti district. It is one of the oldest cinemas in Georgia, built in 1909 in an elegant Art Nouveau style.
During the Soviet era, it was called "October", but in the 1990s, it returned to its historical name. For many years, the building remained in a neglected state until a restoration project was launched in 2019 with the aim of turning it into a multifunctional cultural center.
The interiors have retained stucco moldings, stained glass windows and decorative Art Nouveau elements, making the building an important monument of architecture and cultural memory of Tbilisi.
Reconstruction is ongoing. Access to the interior is limited, but the facade still attracts interest from researchers and tourists.
