[Temporaly closed] Rustaveli Cinema
- Description
The Rustaveli Cinema in Tbilisi, a majestic symbol of history and culture, is an architectural masterpiece embodied on Rustaveli Avenue, the lifeblood of the capital of Georgia. Built in 1939, this theater not only occupies the site of a former guardhouse and the historic Kalubnya Church, it has become a treasure that connects the city's past and present.
Stop for a moment to breathe in the spirit of the times captured in its architecture, created by the famous Nikoloz Severov. Feel how the heritage of the Stalin era is intertwined in its post-constructivist lines, embellished with classical elements. This is one of the first buildings in Tbilisi erected exclusively as a cinema, and every corner of it speaks of the magnificence of cinema.
Walk along Rustaveli Avenue and appreciate the skill of the sculptures decorating the façade: from images of a collective farmer and a worker to a touching image of a woman with her son. On the opposite side, from Purtseladze Street, you will be greeted by a statue of a climber - a symbol of aspiration and courage.
The cinema building, recognized in 1988 as a monument of cultural heritage of Georgia, remains a living witness of many eras. Its interior, renovated in the late 1990s, offers a rich palette of history and art, making every visit a journey through time.
Closed for renovation in July 2018, the Rustaveli Cinema is now in the process of being revived. Returning it to historical greatness is not just a restoration of a building, but also a revival of a legend. Visit it to be part of this amazing history and give yourself the opportunity to see how the past comes to life in the present.
