Mural "Olechka", by Nina Khurtsilava (NIKO Street Art)
- Description
This vibrant and meaningful mural, created by artist Nina Khurtsilava (NIKO Street Art), is a touching tribute to her Ukrainian grandmother named Olechka. This project became one of the best in 2022, receiving the “Best Of June #9” nomination. The mural depicts a young woman with her eyes closed and a kind, peaceful smile on her face.
The focus is on her symbolic wreath and golden sun in her hands, which are filled with powerful symbolism. The sun represents new life and hope for a better future. The wheat branches in the wreath symbolize hope and connection with her native land, and the acorns in her hair symbolize resilience and the ability to survive.
The red braids and white dress refer to Georgia, where this mural is located, and the golden wreath against the blue sky refers to Ukraine. This work not only skillfully conveys a portrait of a woman, but also weaves into it the symbols of two countries that are kindred spirits and have survived many trials.
Olechka’s story, which survived many trials, is of particular importance in this picture. tragedies such as the Holodomor and World War II, but despite this, she remained loving life. The mural is located just 100 meters from the house where she lived until the end of her days.
