Mosaic on Laguna Vere - abstract art and water energy
- Description
The mosaic at the Laguna Vere water sports complex is a striking example of abstract monumental art, created by artist Nikolai (Koka) Ignatov in 1978. The panel is placed above the main entrance to the former swimming pool, symbolizing the power of water, the dynamics of light and natural rhythm.
The work was made in a genre that was rarely allowed in Soviet public art: circles, waves, multi-colored lines and contrasting inclusions reflect the aesthetics of freedom, which did not fit into ideological templates. Thanks to this, the mosaic became not only a decoration of the building, but also an expression of internal artistic protest.
One fragment recalls the movement of water, the other - abstract structures of light. This mosaic continues to inspire today, remaining one of the most aesthetically daring compositions in Tbilisi.
