Tsereteli mosaic on the House of Political Education - symbolism, light and shadow
- Description
The mosaic on the House of Political Education is one of the most discussed works of Zurab Tsereteli in Tbilisi. Created in 1978, it has become an example of abstract monumental art, causing admiration, surprise and even irony among local residents.
The panel is a composition of archaic symbols, multi-layered figures and textured reliefsin which light and shadow intertwine. This mosaic is so expressive and multi-valued that it received popular nicknames: “Sirozh’s Dreams” and “Scrambled Eggs with Tomatoes.”
Tsereteli’s work here is not an illustration, but a spectacle that plays with perception, in which everyone can find something of their own. This approach makes the panel outstanding not only in size, but also in the strength of its emotional impact.

Absolutely phenomenon! - just been there in the last few days, takes your breath. Very close to metro station & you surprising come across it all of a sudden - did not expect it to be roadside (set back just enough for parking).
Must see when in Tbilisi
