  • Description

The "Face of the City" project from KATASTROFFFE is a unique series of plaster sculptures representing the emotional state of megacities. In this composition we see one of such works installed in public places around the world. The sculpture personifies the city as a living organism, which, like a person, reacts to negative changes around it - environmental pollution, overpopulation and moral crises.

In this case, a plaster face, as if compressed into response to stress, expresses tension and fatigue. The city seems to be closing its eyes, trying to get away from the daily noise, dirt and indifference. Nearby is a figure in the hands of a person, symbolizing the fragility of these feelings and heightened perception. The viewer's gaze is involuntarily drawn to the play of textures - the smoothness of the plaster contrasts with the rough surface of the city wall, covered with graffiti and traces of time. The colors and shapes here create dynamics, as if the city itself is trying to say something through these symbols.

The KATASTROFFFE project includes a total of 50 such sculptures, each of which is installed in different parts of Europe , from Florence and Vienna to Moscow and Stockholm. These sculptures are intended to draw attention to the social problems facing modern cities. They seem to capture the moment when an urban space, consisting of concrete and glass, begins to feel like a living being.
