The Georgian Young Lawyers Association (SAIA), based in Tbilisi, is a significant non-governmental organization dedicated to protecting human rights and establishing the rule of law in the country. Since its founding, SAIA has remained steadfast in its principles and values, providing free legal advice to approximately 50,000 citizens per year. The organization also successfully defends the interests of citizens in courts and other government bodies.
Every year, SAIA appeals to the Constitutional Court of Georgia and the European Court of Human Rights, providing support in important strategic cases. The organization actively interacts with all three branches of government, striving to create effective legal guarantees for the protection of human rights. Nine SAIA offices regularly conduct on-site meetings with the public, increasing the legal literacy of citizens. SAIA has approximately 800 members and more than 100 employees, as well as numerous donors and partner organizations.
SAIA plays a significant role in the development of legal education, offering up to 200 law students annually to deepen their knowledge and develop practical skills. The organization's library is also popular among readers. In just two decades, the organization has successfully completed up to 3,000 cases in the general courts of Georgia, and has achieved significant success in the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights.
SAIA monitors various legal processes, studying the conditions of detention of prisoners and identifying violations of their rights. The organization is also actively involved in projects to support media freedom and fights corruption, monitoring election processes in Georgia for more than 15 years.
Over the years, SAIA has gained recognition and trust both in Georgia and abroad, becoming a finalist in the Vaclav Havel International Human Rights Competition. The organization actively collaborates with international partners, providing key information for their reports.
