Penal Reform International Tbilisi Sub-Regional Office
- Description
Penal Reform International (PRI), a non-governmental organization based in the Tbilisi sub-regional office, is focused on promoting a humane criminal justice system that guarantees the protection of human rights and the minimization of harm. The focus is on developing non-discriminatory approaches and advocating for the interests of disadvantaged groups such as ethnic and religious minorities, older people, the LGBTQ community and people with disabilities.
PRI actively promotes gender-sensitive reforms by addressing the needs of women in the criminal justice system and aiming to ensure the rights of all children and young people by minimizing their detention. The organization also works to protect the rights of foreign nationals and stateless persons in contact with criminal justice systems. Their work takes an approach that builds humane systems that are fundamentally rooted in rehabilitation and alternatives to incarceration.
This office will be useful both to organizations and government agencies interested in collaborating on justice issues, and to citizens seeking support and information about protecting their rights in criminal justice matters. PRI builds strong partnerships with governments, international organizations and civil society, making their expertise and independence valuable in advancing needed reforms.
