The Georgian Sports Medicine Association, founded in 1998 and located in Tbilisi, is a key institution in the field of sports medicine in the country. The organization is engaged in medical research and monitoring the health of children, adolescents, professional athletes, as well as veteran athletes. The Association pays special attention to the fight against doping, supporting the motto “sport for health, sport against doping.” It provides qualified medical personnel to national teams, as well as Olympic and non-Olympic teams. The association is headed by Zurab Kakhabrishvili, chief physician of the Georgian national Olympic team and doctor of medical sciences, elected president in 2003.
