Institute for Development of Freedom of Information
- Description
The Institute for the Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) in Tbilisi is a Georgian non-governmental organization founded in 2009 by Levan Avalishvili and Giorgi Kldiashvili. IDFI plays a significant role in promoting open governance and improving access to public information in Georgia and beyond. The organization is actively involved in monitoring government actions, identifying violations and disseminating the findings to society.
Since its founding, IDFI has played a key role in ensuring the openness of government archives and access to archival materials. Since 2012, the organization has expanded its activities to focus on analytical research and evidence-based advocacy. Today the Institute operates as a hybrid entity, combining the functions of an observer, think tank and advisory agency, supporting democracy and promoting economic and social well-being.
IDFI has deservedly received international recognition for its competence in promoting transparency and democratic principles of governance. Those interested in issues of access to information and open governance can contact the organization for expert advice and educational programs.
