Public Union Bemoni (BPU), a non-governmental, non-profit organization based in Tbilisi, has been active since 1998, striving to become a leader in the fight against drug addiction and HIV/AIDS prevention. BPU brings together expertise and resources to develop and implement comprehensive programs aimed at reducing the prevalence of drug abuse and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Georgia. The organization employs a team of 15 specialists who work to change public attitudes towards drug use and promote a healthy lifestyle.
BPU provides a variety of services and programs for youth, school staff, parents and other community members. Specific drug and HIV/AIDS prevention services are developed in response to the needs of local communities. The organization works with local groups to mobilize communities around these issues, and also supports youth organizations, community groups and media professionals with technical resources.
BPU operates four centers, including the Drug Abuse Consultation and Prevention Center, the Information and Training Center, the Mental Health and HIV/AIDS Expert Center, and the Prevention Resource Center in Telavi. The organization provides hotline and personal counseling services, and has conducted trainings for more than 16,000 beneficiaries.
