The Georgian Association of Social Workers (GASW), located in Tbilisi, is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 2004 by US-educated social work masters. The mission of the organization is to protect the social rights of the population of Georgia and promote the development of the profession and practice of social work. GASW actively collaborates with government and non-government agencies, universities and local governments to promote social policies based on the principles of good governance. Among the priority areas of the association's work are the development of the legal framework, social services and educational standards, as well as protecting the interests of such target groups as the homeless, children exposed to violence, ethnic minorities and other vulnerable categories of the population. The association's activities include management, coordination, educational and research activities. The Association actively involves volunteers and cooperates with international organizations such as the International Federation of Social Work and the International Council of Social Security. For social work professionals and interested individuals, GASW provides opportunities to deepen knowledge and develop a network of contacts in the field of social work.
