The Tbilisi Classical Gymnasium Museum is a historical museum located in Tbilisi, Georgia. Year of foundation: 1984. The museum is part of the Tbilisi Classical Gymnasium. Number of items stored: More than 1000 items. This museum is dedicated to the history of the first Georgian public school, which was called the Tbilisi Classical Gymnasium. Its collection includes various historical materials, including equipment from the first Georgian observatory, archival documents, literary and scientific publications of the 19th century. It is indicated that unique materials were lost as a result of a fire that occurred during the civil war in the 1990s. Since 2003, the museum’s collection has been replenished with historical materials from the Georgiy Leonidze Literary Museum, the Public Library and the Archive. The museum is also active in educational and scientific activities and hosts various events such as scientific conferences and meetings. Museum opening hours: daily, except Saturday and Sunday, from 10:00 to 17:00. Admission is free for children under 6 years of age, employees of Georgian and foreign museums, ICOM members (with valid ID), people with disabilities (with valid ID) and refugees. The museum offers permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as educational programs and scientific events.
