Ilia Chavchavadze House-Museum
- Description
The museum was founded in 1957 and is a structural subdivision of the National Union of Museums of Tbilisi. His profile is memorial. This house became the home of Ilya Chavchavadze and his wife Olga Guramishvili from 1902 to 1907. While living in Tbilisi, Chavchavadze changed several residential addresses, including the Mtatsminda and Sololaki districts. From 1889 to 1901, Chavchavadze lived in the house of his sister Elizaveta Saginashvili, where the editorial office of the Iveria newspaper was located. In the early 1900s, Chavchavadze decided to purchase his own house and purchased a plot of land with a small one-story house on Andreeva Street (now Georgiy Chubinashvili Street, building 22). Initially, the building had small rooms, but later Chavchavadze added two rooms, turning to the famous 19th century architect Simon Kldiashvili for the project. One room became his office, and the other became his reception room. Civil engineer Jacob Frangishvili was responsible for the construction of the house. Two years before his death, Ilya Chavchavadze drew up a will in which he transferred all his property to his wife Olga Guramishvili, and after her death - to the property of the Society for the Promotion of Literacy among Georgians. The house-museum was founded on August 3, 1956 and is located at st. Georgiy Chubinashvili, No. 22.
