Tbilisi Photography & Multimedia Museum (TPMM)
- Description
The Tbilisi Museum of Photography and Multimedia is located at Merab Kostava Street, 14, in the city of Tbilisi, in the building of the Stamba Hotel. This private museum was founded with the aim of presenting and preserving contemporary images in its various forms such as photography, new media and video. The collection of the Tbilisi Museum of Photography and Multimedia (TMMM) became the first such institution in Georgia. The museum stands out for its focus on contemporary art, providing a platform for exhibitions, debates and educational programs. TMMM is an independent platform that actively promotes the development of photography as a tool for social and cultural change in Georgia, the South Caucasus and beyond. Currently, due to emergency measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the Tpmm exhibition space and media library are temporarily closed to visitors. It is recommended to monitor notifications regarding the reopening of the museum.

A modern exhibition space situated in a former factory building. You can reach the upper floor by elevator. Each artwork has a small leaflet with curatorial explanations nearby. The main floor houses a popular and stylish restaurant along with a wine store. Admission is free. The exhibition features audio, video, and mixed media photographic works.

The space is lovely with large windows, offering free entry. The exhibition is fascinating, showcasing works from different countries as of October 2024. You can understand the concepts behind the works through detailed descriptions. It features a variety of pieces like audio and video performances, sculptures, and paintings. Finding it can be tricky, but the quickest route is through the restaurant; just press "1" in the elevator.

Wonderful exhibition venue. The open art and photo book library invites you to spend time exploring its collection. The entire building is an adventure in itself. Plus, admission is free!

There was barely anything worth seeing inside... But the trees outside were quite nice.

Место привлекает множеством книг и фотоальбомов. Можно провести здесь много времени с интересом. Атмосфера приятная и располагающая. Найти вход может быть сложно, лучше уточнить у охраны отеля или спросить в ресторане.

Finding the entrance is quite a puzzle 😅, but absolutely rewarding. Spent an hour immersed in the photo books and can't wait to return.

So happy we visited! Right now, there's a stunning Michael Kenna exhibition. It's a bit tricky to locate, but the best way is through Stamba restaurant: head to the last open kitchen, then take a right down the corridor, and find the stairs to the second floor (old stairs on your right).

A bit hard to locate, yet it’s a pleasant, compact museum with no entry fee.

Arrived and found the place closed until August 15. Sure, everyone needs a vacation, but they should've mentioned it somewhere, so visitors aren't left disappointed.

To get there, head to the main entrance of Stamba, turn left towards the café, walk through it until you pass the open kitchen. On the right, you’ll find a door leading to old stairs. These stairs take you to the second floor. We visited an exhibition featuring eight Lithuanian photographers and really enjoyed it. It's definitely a place you shouldn't miss.

Absolutely loved my visit. The staff are incredibly friendly, and the exhibitions are thoughtfully curated. Their library is outstanding. A must-see in Tbilisi.

Located on the second floor of the Stamba publishing building, this photo exhibit is truly fascinating. The industrial style of the exhibition space adds to the overall cool experience. The display is well-presented with helpful leaflets and projections. It's a good idea to check their website for the latest exhibits, but even without that, the venue is a must-see if you're at Stamba or appreciate industrial architecture. To get there, either walk through the café and turn right, or use the door next to the café to enter the courtyard, then go left past the space garden and left down the hallway.
