  • Description

The Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani Monument in Tbilisi is a significant cultural and historical site dedicated to the outstanding Georgian educator, diplomat and humanist. Created by sculptor T. Sikharulidze in 1959, the bronze monument depicts Sulkhan-Saba in a sitting pose, personifying his wisdom and greatness. Orbeliani, who lived from 1658 to 1725, was the mentor of Vakhtang VI and a respected lexicographer who spoke many languages, including Persian, Latin, ancient Greek and others. As an active diplomat, he traveled throughout Western Europe seeking assistance against the Persian invasion and gained respect at the court of Louis XIV. A visit to the Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani monument offers an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Georgian history and culture, as well as pay tribute to this significant historical figure.
