Memorial to Abo Tiflis
- Description
The Abo Tiflis Memorial, located on the right bank of the Kura River in Tbilisi, is dedicated to the saint and martyr who championed the Christian faith in the Tbilisi Emirate. Saint Abo, being an Arab from Damascus, arrived in Georgia in 775 and converted to Christianity in 781. His religious activities and preaching among the Arabs led to his arrest and execution in 786. Having suffered for his beliefs, Abo became a revered saint in the Christian tradition. The memorial is located in a modest place and may be of interest to those who study the history of Christianity in Georgia or are interested in local saints. A visit to the memorial provides an opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the history of the region and honor the memory of the saint, who became a symbol of Christian asceticism.
