Memorial with eternal flame "300 Aragvinians"
- Description
The “300 Aragvinians” memorial with an eternal flame in Tbilisi is a memorial site dedicated to the heroic feat of a detachment of Aragvinians who fought in the Battle of Krtsanisi in 1795. Located in a park between two roads, the memorial includes an obelisk 23 meters high and an eternal flame in honor of the fallen heroes. The Aragvinians, consisting of highlanders from the Aragvi River valley, covered the retreat of the allied Georgian troops, giving the remaining soldiers the opportunity to escape. In 1961, burials supposedly associated with the Aragvin people were discovered in this place, which led to the creation of the monument.
The memorial is an important part of Georgian history, especially after the canonization of 300 Aragvinians as martyrs in 2008. This place is often visited by both residents of Tbilisi and tourists who want to touch the historical heritage and pay tribute to national heroes. The anniversary of the battle is celebrated in September, and the public garden around the memorial can be seen hosting gatherings and ceremonies, attracting large crowds. The memorial serves as a reminder of the courage and dedication in the struggle for Georgian independence.
