International Humanitarian Union "Catharsis"
- Description
The International Humanitarian Union "Catharsis" in Tbilisi is a unique center for comprehensive social assistance, founded in 1990 in response to the deep socio-economic crisis in Georgia. The Union provides social support and care for older people, helping to improve their quality of life through a variety of free services.
Catharsis's original mission was to provide essential humanitarian services to socially vulnerable citizens, providing an atmosphere of warmth and support. Over time, the center transformed into a large-scale social complex, including medical care, a pharmacy, a canteen, rehabilitation and recreation centers, a library and a used clothing workshop. In addition to this, there are folk and popular music choirs, a theater for elderly actors "Nostalgia", an Internet cafe and a chapel.
From 1995 to 2018, Catharsis operated branches in six regions of Georgia, supporting more than 1,500 beneficiaries throughout the country. The organization actively cooperates with the business community and government, which allows it to receive support from various companies and use buildings without paying rent. In addition, brothers of mercy serve in Catharsis, performing alternative military service.
A visit to the center may be relevant for those who are looking for reliable social support for older people and strive to provide their loved ones with a comfortable and dignified aging. Catharsis has an open door policy for donors and sponsors to see how donations are used. This place continues to be a home of mercy for many who need care and understanding.
