Saarbrücken Bridge is one of the oldest bridges in Tbilisi, spanning the Kura River. Built in 1853, it became the first stone bridge in the city and at the time of completion it was the largest stone bridge on the territory of the Russian Empire.
The bridge connects Khidi Street and Saarbrücken Square, connecting the districts of Mtatsminda and Chugureti. Previously, the bridge bore the names: Bolshoi Mikhailovsky, Vorontsovsky and Karl Marx Bridge. It received its modern name in 1994 in honor of Tbilisi’s German sister city, Saarbrücken.
Architecturally, the bridge is a five-span arch bridge with semi-circular arches, faced with light yellow Eclair limestone and gray basalt. The length of the bridge is 124 meters, width - 26 meters. The bridge is intended for the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
