It’s mostly a waypoint due to its central location in the city. The traffic is heavy since it’s a main junction, but it has improved with new road surfaces, signs, and traffic lights. Before, it was chaotic, and though it’s better, drivers still maneuver freely despite markings. Cameras help enforce traffic rules, especially at lights. It’s not much of a final stop, but there’s an intriguing sculpture to check out while you’re slowly moving towards Pekini Street, Station Square Bazar, or on your way to Freedom Square and Rustaveli Street.

This spot is a major traffic center in Tbilisi, linking several key roads. The area is bustling with cars, particularly during rush hour. Pedestrians cross safely via the underpasses. The central monument here stands as a strong tribute to Georgia's heroes, a reminder of its importance amidst the busy traffic. It's hard to appreciate the history it represents when you're focused on navigating the traffic. The area does connect different parts of the city and is close to other attractions, but the overwhelming busyness overshadows these positives. Overall, the mix of old and new architecture is interesting, but the negatives of being in such a hectic location really outweigh any potential benefits for a leisurely visit or thoughtful reflection.

The underground pedestrian path here is ridiculously complicated. And worse, some parts of it are now closed! With no alternative routes. Whoever designed this place must be idiots.

Вот для кого она была названа: в 1935 году, 23 декабря, решением Тифлисского совета новому месту, образовавшемуся за счет объединения новой набережной дороги, улицы Челюскинцев и улицы Варазишхеви, дали имя "Площадь Героев Советского Союза". Это было сделано в честь первых героев СССР — летчиков, спасших экипаж ледокола "Челюскин". Площадь расположена в ущелье реки Веры, где когда-то были известные сады Веры. В конце XIX века здесь заканчивался город и начиналась Военно-Грузинская дорога. На рубеже XIX-XX веков эта территория считалась любимым местом для застолий тбилисцев, с множеством маленьких закусочных с названиями "Фантазия", "Эдем", "Рассвет", "Не уезжай, голубчик мой". В 1935 году, после срезки скалистого холма на северо-востоке площади, появилась улица Челюскинцев (сейчас проспект Тамары), где построили мост (ныне мост Тамары). В 1957 году на южной части площади, в результате засыпки нижней части Варазишхеви, появилась улица Варазишхеви. На площади возвышается 11-этажная башня жилого дома (1939, архитектор М. Калашников), а на холме — здание цирка (1942, архитекторы Н. Непринцев, С. Сатунцы, В. Урушадзе). В 70-х годах площадь реконструировали (архитектор К. Нахуцришвили), построили часть большого комплекса — подземный транспортный тоннель и пешеходный переход. 27 сентября 2003 года здесь открыли мемориал героям, погибшим за единство Грузии. Памяти погибших посвящена скульптура "Вознесение" (скульптор Г. Шхвацабая). Удивительна ирония истории — на месте, посвященном подвигу спасения экипажа советских летчиков, мемориал борцам за Грузию.

Зачем окружать памятник шоссе? Чтобы люди не могли его увидеть? Я потратил около 40 минут, пытаясь понять, как перейти дорогу. Это пересечение — просто ужас.

Приемлемо! Это место подходит для поездки на машине; пешеходное движение здесь запрещено, только машины. Улица Костава проходит на высоте, на холме, где находится и концертный зал филармонии. Под ним расположен роддом, в котором появились на свет знакомые дети.

Большая транспортная развязка с памятником Героям в центре. Пешеходам доступен подземный переход, но навигация отсутствует. Стены покрыты граффити. Место неудобно для велосипедистов из-за обилия лестниц. Впечатление скорее отрицательное: недостатки заметно перевешивают.

Здесь ужасная планировка. Перейти на другую сторону почти невозможно. Приехать на велосипеде или электросамокате просто нереально.

A stunning monument dedicated to Georgian heroes. Spectacular.

This spot is a tribute to those who fell in the conflicts between Georgia and Russia around the time the Soviet Union collapsed. It’s also a major traffic junction, so taxis often pass through here. For those who prefer walking, there’s an underground passage with plenty of graffiti art to admire. If you visit the zoo, definitely make a stop here too.

Это очень красивая площадь и важный узел в Тбилиси. Она расположена рядом с большим зоопарком и на берегу реки Куры, что придаёт ей современный вид. Рядом находится мемориал в честь погибших в войне с Россией, на который каждое утро возлагают цветы. К тому же, здесь всегда стоят двое солдат в военной форме, отдавая дань уважения.

Увлекательный монумент, очень изящно.
