[Temporaly closed] Monument to composer Vano Sarajishvili in Sighnaghi

In the central part of the city of Sighnaghi, in a shady park next to David the Builder Square, there is a monument to the composer and opera singer Vano Sarajishvili. The monument, made of granite, depicts the artist with his right hand raised and his left hand placed on his heart, in deep thought.
Vano Sarajishvili, whose real name is Ivan Petrovich Sarajishvili, was a native of Sighnaghi. At the beginning of the twentieth century, his name thundered on the stages of Russia, Italy, France and Germany. In addition to his vocal abilities, Vano had stage talent and starred in one film. The State Conservatory in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, bears the name of this outstanding singer.
