Assumption Cathedral in Sagarejo
- Description
The Assumption Cathedral in Sagarejo is a unique religious and historical monument of the 19th century. Located in the city of Sagarejo, Georgia, it served as a place of worship until 1925, and after a short break during Soviet times, it reopened its doors in 1990. In the early 2000s, the cathedral was renovated and covered with tin, which gives it a special historical charm.
Particular attention should be paid to the belfry adjacent to the cathedral. Its lower floor has an arched exit, offering views of the delightful landscapes around. In 2015, a chapel was built in the cathedral, which became an addition to the main building and introduced new elements into the overall architectural composition.
The Assumption Cathedral in Sagarejo will perfectly show the history and culture of Georgia; it can be safely recommended both to travelers who are passionate about history and architecture, and to believers looking for a quiet and peaceful place for prayer and reflection. It is a great place to visit and experience Georgian religious culture and should therefore be on your list of important places to visit in Georgia.
