  • Description

The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Rustavi, better known as Rustavi Zion, is a significant object of Georgian Orthodoxy and one of the main attractions of the city of Rustavi. The temple was built between 2000 and 2011, and is a unique complex combining elements of Georgian temples of the 11th-12th centuries.

The architectural design of Zion Rustavi includes features of the temples of Nikortsminda, Katskhi and Bana, and its carvings are a repetition of the decorations of various Georgian temples. It is noteworthy that modern technologies were not used during construction. Only stone was used as the main building material, and gugabi was created according to the ancient Georgian traditional method using egg yolk. This guarantees the strength of the temple and its stability for centuries.

Construction of the complex continues; the bell tower is currently being erected. Visitors to the temple can see unique carvings on the windows, which are not repeated. Rustavi Zion attracts not only believers, but also those interested in history and architecture.

A visit to the temple will be useful for everyone who seeks to learn more about Georgian culture and traditional construction, as well as to feel the spiritual heritage of this region. The photographs you take can be used to better convey the atmosphere and uniqueness of this place.
