  • Description

The fortress in Rustavi is a unique historical place located in Rustavi Park, which attracts the attention of tourists and city residents. This is an old settlement discovered as a result of archaeological excavations and included in the list of cultural heritage of Georgia.

The Rustavi fortress was built in several stages starting in the 5th century to protect the capital, Tbilisi. Architecturally, it is interesting in that it originally had quadrangular towers, and was then supplemented with semicircular towers. In the 9th-11th centuries, all the fences were united, and in the 12th-13th centuries an external fence with a tunnel vestibule appeared. One of the unique features of the fortress are the frescoes, which make it the only one of its kind in Georgia.

On the territory of the fortress there are bicycle and jogging paths, sports grounds, as well as a children's play area. This place is ideal for walking and active recreation. In summer you can rent kayaks and enjoy a walk along the reservoir.

In the cultural aspect of the place, one can also highlight the theater, and for sports fans, fields for playing football and basketball. There are cafes on the territory of the fortress where you can try local delicacies such as kebabs and khachapuri. Cotton ice cream is especially popular here.

In the 20th century, the fortress was known as Rish-kala, and in the 1920s it received a historically unfounded name - Arish Castle. However, historians have always recognized its true name - Rustavi Fortress.

A visit to the Fortress in Rustavi will be interesting to everyone who values history, culture and outdoor activities. It provides a unique opportunity to experience the past and enjoy modern conveniences in one place.
