A fascinating historical site that's definitely worth a visit. I wouldn't recommend paying extra for the wine cellar. The entrance fee of 15 Lari includes a cozy museum that plays an engaging documentary about the place.

Surprised that this spot has only 140 reviews because it's definitely worth a visit. Built around 2000 BC, it's fascinating to see human ingenuity before the advent of speech. The evidence of ancient medical studies with herbs is particularly amazing. The climb isn't too challenging. I have weak knees and struggle with claustrophobia, but I navigated the place just fine. Although it's not a UNESCO site or an ancient capital as some might mistakenly believe, it remains a remarkable testament to history.

An outstanding open-air museum featuring a stunning array of rock caves and tunnels set in beautiful scenery along the Mykvar River. I'd suggest taking a tour guide or using an audio guide to learn about the fascinating history dating back to the early Iron Ages. Wearing comfortable shoes is a must. Highly recommend it! ✨

This museum offers a glimpse into Georgian history. As you explore further, you'll find the intriguing caves in this ancient cave town. However, be prepared for a rather compact space, which might feel a bit cramped at times. Nonetheless, it's a fascinating visit.

Fascinating location, with an ancient city carved into the stone on a hillside. Walking on stones is necessary, as there’s no flat path. It’s important to be cautious with every step to avoid twisting an ankle. There isn’t much information available without a guide or audioguide. Although the audioguide doesn’t offer extensive details, it still provides some insights. A video about the reserve is available at the museum near the entrance. It's definitely a worthwhile visit. Parking costs 5 GEL, entry is 15 GEL, and the audioguide is 15 GEL. The visit takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Yesterday, my wife and I arrived at 17:20 only to be told by security that it was already closed to tourists. We traveled a long way and left feeling disappointed.

An ancient city carved directly from nature itself, where history comes to life. You can see the lifestyle of past humans with churches and houses, each divided into different rooms. It's truly astonishing how they've dug into the rock walls to create living spaces.

Visiting the ancient caves is an amazing experience, and the climb up the hill is quite convenient. The entrance fee is 15 GEL. You can get there via a Mashrutka or by taking a taxi from the city of Gori. I used the Maxim app to book a taxi, which cost 10 GEL from the center of Gori.

This place is fantastic for spending a few hours exploring without a guide. We found that our visit was greatly improved by using an inexpensive map available for just 5 Lari. The map helps navigate through the many cave buildings and includes short descriptions in English. Make sure to buy it! Medea, who created the map, welcomed us at the entrance and offered excellent advice. The wine tasting for another 5 Lari was a delightful way to end our trip, with some tasty treats near the old winemaking part of the city.

This ancient cave city is located about 10 kilometers from Gori, known as Stalin's birthplace. It was founded in the 6th century BC and is believed by archaeologists to be 2,000 years older than David Garedji and 2,500 years older than Vardzia. The city quickly became a trading hub along the Silk Road, with caravans frequently stopping there, and trade was its main source of livelihood. At its peak, up to 20,000 people lived there. Its strategic position on a hill by the river Mtkvari (Kura) made it nearly impenetrable to invaders for centuries. However, in the 13th century, the Mongols led by Ögedei Khan managed to capture and destroy it. An earthquake in 1920 also caused destruction to the city and its surroundings.
The tour starts by climbing stairs and passing by numerous residential caves carved from soft rock. With a little imagination and information from the signs, you can spot the remains of an amphitheater, pharmacy, bakery, and storage spaces. The tour lasts about 90 minutes and is definitely worth it. There are a few areas where more detailed information would be helpful, but overall it's an impressive site to visit. -

A wonderful spot to explore for a few hours. There’s a large area with numerous cave-like rooms to discover. I wouldn’t suggest getting the wine cellar ticket, as the cellar itself is quite small and not as appealing as the rest of the site. It's worth it only if you're a wine enthusiast who enjoys tiny spaces!

This place is incredible. There's so much history waiting to be discovered here. It once served as a small community center with a pharmacy, kitchen, gathering spots, wine cellar, and more, all carved out of stone. Make sure to set aside at least half a day for your visit. You can explore by walking down through the secret tunnel.

Visiting this site was a good experience, especially the caves and views. The wine tasting service was excellent, though the wine itself wasn't particularly memorable. Getting there can be tricky, so it's best to drive your own car or arrange for a taxi that will take you both ways.

The video about the history of the place is the highlight. It's very well done and engaging. However, there aren't many exhibits. The ticket also includes a tour of the caves.

A truly breathtaking place. The work here, done back in the 4th century, is remarkable. While it may not be an architectural wonder by today's standards, the craftsmanship using limited tools is impressive. If you're passionate about history or archaeology, this is a site you can't miss.
