Bavrinskaya Church, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Georgia
- Description
In the depths of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, the Bavrinskaya Church rises like a lost treasure. Its history goes back to the distant 10th century, when the local feudal lord Sofron ordered the construction of this temple. The building, made in a hall style, impresses with its exquisite architecture. On the south side it is adjacent to an elegant porch, and the walls, made of andesite tuff stones, play with a variety of gray and red shades.
A special feature of the church is the relief image of Daniel in the lion's den, impressive with its monumentality on the eastern wall. Beneath it lies an ancient inscription on Asomtavruli, reading: “Christ, Glory to Sophron.” On the western façade the same writing proclaims: “In the name of the Lord this church was assembled by Saint Sophron, son of Konkol,” revealing the secret of the name of the builder of this spiritual structure.
In addition to its historical value, the Bavrinskaya Church amazes with its surroundings. In her cozy courtyard you can find several old gravestones that seem to tell their own stories.
This location is not just a place for a tourist visit, but also an opportunity to immerse yourself in the grandeur and richness of the cultural heritage of Georgia. For those who appreciate history and architectural masterpieces, the Bavrinskaya Church will be an unforgettable point on the route through this amazing country.
