Leshamge Church, Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti, Georgia
- Description
Leshamge Church is the pearl of Samegrelo, located in the secluded beauty of the village of Leshamuge in the Tsalenjikha municipality. This architectural ensemble delights with its majestic medieval architecture. One of its outstanding elements is the semicircular projecting apse on the eastern façade, giving Leshamge Church a unique character.
The temple, built in a hall style, amazes with its simplicity and at the same time majesty. The temple has only two windows in the western, southern and northern walls, while in the apse on the eastern facade there are three windows that let in light and create a special atmosphere inside the temple. The absence of decorative elements on the facades gives the Leshamge Church a special modest beauty, which, however, does not detract from its importance and grandeur.
The church has two entrances, each of which has its own history. Architrave entrances from the west and north give the church a special elegance. Interestingly, there was previously a third entrance from the north, which is now closed, but its presence is still felt, like a mysterious trace of history.
Leshamge Church is not just an architectural structure, it is a place rich in history and spirituality. A visit to this location immerses you in the atmosphere of antiquity, allowing you to feel the grandeur and mystery of the past. For travelers seeking to experience the spirit of Georgia and discover unique historical places, the Leshamge Church will be an unforgettable point on the route.
