Abandoned cultural center of the village of Marani
- Description
The abandoned cultural center of the village of Marani in Samegrelo - Upper Svaneti, Abashi municipality, is one of the important historical attractions of the region. The building, built by Italian architects at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, in the eastern part of the village on the right bank of the Tsshniskali River, served for a long time as a center of cultural life. However, in the 90s the center was destroyed and ceased operations.
In 2016, the building was recognized as a cultural heritage monument, and in December 2021, the Georgian Ministry of Culture announced a project for its complete rehabilitation. The total budget of the project is more than 4 million lari, and completion of work is planned for the summer of 2024. Restoration work includes the dismantling of later buildings, strengthening of foundations and load-bearing walls, arrangement of roofs and utility networks, as well as restoration of the facades and interiors of the building, including conservation and restoration work of paintings and decorative elements.
As a result of the restoration, the historical appearance of the building will be preserved, and the cultural center will reopen its doors as a modern multicultural center. After completion of all stages of work, the center will host various cultural projects and events, attracting the attention of residents and guests of the region.
A visit to this cultural center is worth exploring the history and architecture of the region, as well as experiencing unique cultural events and activities. In addition, the restored center will become a platform for theatrical performances, film screenings and other cultural initiatives. For those interested in history and cultural heritage, this will be an excellent opportunity to see buildings restored with great care and love for detail.
According to the decision of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia Tea Tsulukiani, the restoration of the cultural center in the village of Marani not only brings back to life an important cultural heritage site, but also contributes to the development of cultural and social life of the entire Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti region.
