Labechi Church of the Holy Archangels, Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti, Georgia
- Description
Labechi Church of the Holy Archangels, located in picturesque Racha, in the vicinity of the cozy village of Zeda Chkvishi in the Ambrolauri municipality, is a real pearl of the architectural heritage of the 12th century. Built for the glory of faith, it has stood the test of time, surviving an earthquake in the 12th century and restoration in the 13th-14th centuries with the participation of the outstanding master Gabriel Labecinelli.
This temple attracts the eye with its graceful architecture: a hall building with a semicircular apse, oblong proportions, elegant pilasters, crossing arches and majestic arched windows piercing the walls in the east, south and west. Moving along the facades, the eye will see unique details: impressive triangular niches with ornamented windows, crosses decorated with reliefs and lapidary inscriptions that give the building a special character.
Diving inside, visitors will feel the grandeur and spiritual renewal of the place, which has preserved pieces of ancient painting, as well as the two-story plinth on which this shrine of cut sandstone rises.
Labechinskaya Church of the Holy Archangels is not just a historical building, it is a living witness of the era, a place where faith and art are embodied. We invite you to take a journey into the past, look at the world through the eyes of ancient masters and feel the breath of centuries hidden within these walls.
