Muri fortress (Skiomari, Tsikhnari, Don't let go) in Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti, Georgia.
- Description
In the heart of Lechkhumi, on the thrilling Tsageri Mountains, lies an indestructible fortress complex that carries a majestic history - Mura Castle. This robust piece of architecture withstood time from antiquity until 1867, becoming the political, economic and cultural center of Lechkhumi.
The castle, which consisted of three parts - the main building and two towers, rose on a high mountain, guarding its secrets. “Grab”, “Beat”, “Don’t Let Go” - these are the names of the buildings, each of which carried its own functional load. The main castle, with the name “Welcome Well”, and two towers, “Hka Maga” and “Don’t Let Go”, mysteriously take us to the times when the fortress stood as an impregnable guard of Lechkhumi.
The Hka Maga watchtower played an important role in warning the castle of an approaching enemy. When the enemy approached, she shouted loudly: “The enemy has come! Have fun!” After successfully repelling the attack, the castle called out to the western tower: “Don’t let go!” These historical details give Mura Castle not only majesty, but also the spirit of battles.
Despite the centuries, the castle has retained its dark side. Here, during the times of serfdom, warriors and peasants experienced a difficult ordeal. Dark dungeons and wells recreate the atmosphere of the past, where freedom was worth considerable suffering.
However, against the backdrop of these historical tragedies, Moore's Castle takes on special grandeur. Built on a high mountain with huge stones, it rises above the ordinary, rising into the skies as a witness to the greatness of Lechkhumi.
In 2018, the government initiated the construction of an illuminated road leading to the castle, making this historical monument easily accessible to visitors. Everyone who sets foot on the grounds of Mura Castle feels a connection to ancient history, imbued with battles, glory and power.
The variety of architectural elements, majestic towers and legends etched in stone make a visit to Mura Castle a unique experience. Those who want to feel the spirit of ancient battles, enjoy the majestic nature and immerse themselves in the history of Lechkhumi should definitely go to this cultural and architectural masterpiece. Mura Castle is not just an ancient structure, but a gateway to the past that opens to those who are ready to meet the heritage of Lechkhumi with respect and curiosity.

Названия крепости и башен отражают их боевую функцию: главная крепость – "Встречай врага во всеоружии", восточная башня – "Дай отпор", западная башня – "Не упусти".
