Stone Faces of the Sno Valley - Giant Sculptures Among the Caucasus Mountains
- Description
Stone Faces of Sno Valley is a unique open-air gallery located near the village of Sno, not far from Stepantsminda. The sculptures are giant stone heads carved from natural boulders and depict prominent Georgian poets, writers, philosophers, and even religious figures.
The author and inspiration for the project is self-taught sculptor Merab Piranishvili. He hand-carves the faces of famous personalities such as Vazha Pshavela, Shota Rustaveli, Ilia Chavchavadze, Alexander Kazbegi, and Jesus Christ right onto his rocks, giving the valley a mystical and cultural character.
The gallery consists of about six large sculptures located along the road approaching Sno. It is part of the tourist routes around Kazbegi, and many travelers note that it is an unexpected but memorable art point, adding a cultural accent to the mountain landscape.
The gallery is easy to get to: from Stepantsminda along the Georgian Military Road to the east towards Juta, turning right towards Sno. The sculptures are located about 2-3 km from the turn on the road, on the right side.
