Chkhaukhi Pass - an alpine trail through the Caucasian peaks, from Juta to Raska
- Description
Chkhaukhi Pass is a high-mountain pass at an altitude of about 3,341 m, connecting the Juta Valley with the Khevsureti region. The route, passing through the fragile rocks of the Chkhaukhi ridge and the famous Abudelauri lakes, is perfect for experienced tourists and climbers.
The route is about 17.8 km long with an altitude gain of over 1,300 m. It is usually covered in one day (8-9 hours from Juta), but if desired, it can be divided into two days with an overnight stay at the Abudelauri lakes or in Rask.
The pass becomes accessible in July - at the beginning of the season there may be snow. The best time for trekking is from early July to late September, and with luck, even in October.
Trekking enthusiasts call Chkhaukhi "Georgian Dolomites" - sharply defined peaks, alpine meadows, multi-colored lakes create a unique atmosphere.
