The famous Georgian poet and publicist, public figure Ilya Chavchavadze devoted his entire adult life to the struggle for the national independence of Georgia, for which he was dearly loved and respected by the people.
The State House-Museum, founded in honor of the writer in 1961, is located in the village of Saguramo in the family estate, which belonged to his wife Olga Guramishvili. After the poet's death, she independently set up an elementary school and an agricultural academy in the house specifically for the village population.
On the territory of the museum there is a poet's house, a garden with vineyards, buildings of economic purpose and a wine cellar. The exposition in the estate is recreated in the atmosphere of the XIX century, photographs, documentary materials, personal belongings and notes of the writer, the arrangement of his study have been preserved.
