  • Description

Jvara, formerly known as Dumanisi, is the majestic Church of the Mother of God, rising in the village of Chivchavi, in a picturesque corner of the municipality of Tetritskaro, in the region of Kvemo Kartli. Its architectural style, although it does not give an exact date of origin, dates back to the period of the XIV-XVIII centuries, attracting the views of inquisitive researchers with its grandeur and importance.

Although the history of this sacred site is shrouded in mystery, fragments of time penetrate through its damaged walls, telling stories of ancient rituals and life that took place here centuries ago. As you walk through the temple grounds, you penetrate deeply into the sacred atmosphere of the past, encountering stone steles and graves, each of which picturesquely captures moments of bygone eras. One of these tombs is the “Tomb of the Warrior,” where a horse and its owner, who fell in battle, accompany each other into eternity, telling a story of endless devotion and courage.

Undoubtedly, the Jvar Church is suffering from time, requiring immediate intervention and restoration. Its walls, imbued with history and spirituality, encourage us to preserve this unique piece of the past for future generations. Through efforts to restore and care for cultural heritage, we can extend the life of this magnificent architectural history, providing everyone with the opportunity to look at the greatness of the past and admire its beauty and mystery.
