Akido Winery β an old Kakhetian house and wine with character
- Description
Akido Winery is a family-run winery located in the village of Akura, near the Ikalto Monastery, in the Kakheti region. The name "Akido" means "bunch of grapes" in Georgian, symbolizing how wine, food, history and culture are intertwined here.
The estate is owned by a young couple and their parents. It includes two vineyards, one of which is in Akhmeta. The main attraction of the winery is a restored Kakhetian house from the early 20th century - a family heirloom decorated with archival photographs, musical instruments and carpets. Under the house there is a traditional marani with an earthen floor and qvevri, which are cared for according to all the canons.
Tastings take place on a wooden terrace with a set table, where signature wines are served - peppery Saperavi and aromatic Rkatsiteli - accompanied by pkhali and other snacks. Also available are buffets, khachapuri master classes and participation in Rtveli - the autumn grape harvest festival.
