Ninoskhevi Waterfall - 40 m of grandeur and wild nature in the Lagodekhi Nature Reserve
- Description
Ninoskhevi Waterfall (also known as Gurgeniani) is a spectacular 40-meter waterfall hidden in the wooded gorges of Lagodekhi National Park. Its power and beauty make it one of the main natural attractions of eastern Georgia.
The hike starts from Gurgeniani Information Center and goes along the river for 8-9 km with an altitude gain of about 500 m. The trail is amazing: a narrow path, forests, streams, stone fords, rare plants (Lagodekhi gentiana, snowdrop, Georgian oak) and chances to meet wild fauna - deer, roe deer or wild boar.
The route is of medium difficulty: flexible sports shoes (wet, with non-slip soles) are required, as there are wet boulders and stones. Be especially careful in spring: during the meltwater season, the trail may “break away” from the path, requiring several river crossings and going around sinkholes.
The hike takes about 4-6 hours there and back (5 hours on average), including rest and photos at the waterfall.
The best time to visit is spring and summer, when nature wakes up, but the route can be extreme due to weather conditions.
