Mud volcanoes of Takhti-Tefa - a unique natural monument of Kakheti

  • Description

Takhti-Tefa is one of the most unusual natural monuments of Georgia, located in the south of Kakheti, near the Dali reservoir. This geological wonder is an active mud crater, from which a mixture of clay, oil and gas constantly erupts.

The area of the main zone is only 1 hectare, but the natural formation itself covers almost 10 hectares. Here you can observe a rare natural phenomenon - bubbling volcanic formations that resemble the breath of the earth. The walking path to the site is only 500 meters, which makes the route accessible even to travelers without special training.

You can get to Takhti-Tefa from the city of Dedoplistskaro (130 km from Tbilisi), and then through the Dali reservoir. The last section of the road is a dirt road, but the scenery around more than compensates for the difficulties of the journey.
