David Gareji Museum-Reserve

The David-Gareji Museum-Reserve is located in the village of Udabno, Sagarejo Municipality, and was founded in 1976. This historical museum has the legal status of a legal entity of public law (LELP) and is controlled by the National Agency for the Preservation of the Cultural Heritage of Georgia under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. The museum's collection consists of 1097 objects stored in thirteen monuments of medieval architecture. The construction of the rock monastery complex in the Gareji area began in the middle of the 6th century. Archaeological excavations on the territory of the museum discovered the remains of primitive man, bone and stone tools, early and late bronze, as well as Iron Age settlements. The David Gareji Museum-Reserve is open daily, except Mondays, from 10:00 to 18:00. Visiting the museum is free, which makes it accessible to a wide range of visitors.
