In the very heart of Guria, on an elevated hill, lies the majestic Bukistsikhe Fortress, a real historical monument. It began its rich history back in the Bronze Age, becoming a place of monastery for people, and in ancient times - the center of an urban settlement. Tamar Castle, a majestic structure, has several building layers, spanning the period from the early Middle Ages to the late Middle Ages.

The capture by the Turks in 1774, along with the fortresses of Likhauri and Askani, became a temporary test for Bukissikhe. However, thanks to the heroic efforts of Mamiya IV Gurieli and Solomon I, he was released that same year. For a long time, the Tamar fortress played a strategic role, controlling the road from Imereti and Meskheti to the Black Sea, until Guria united with Russia.

Today the monument has undergone some changes and damage, but the majestic north-eastern part of the castle has been preserved. At its heart, on the ground floor of a multi-story tower, impressive traces of a stone winepress and the remains of a stone staircase were discovered. The second floor was presumably a residence, while the third floor served a defensive function, dating back to the 6th-7th centuries.

To the east of the castle rises an ancient church of the 10th century, leaving behind only the northern and eastern walls. With an entrance from the west and a rectangular altar, this temple impresses with its magnificence and historical significance.
