Lake Tbikeli

Lake Tbikeli is located in Adjara, Kobuleti Municipality, on the territory of the Kintrishi National Park, at an altitude of 2222 meters above sea level, on the north-eastern slope of Mount Nabadziri. This picturesque high-mountain lake with a maximum depth of 8-10 meters is fed by precipitation, melted snow and groundwater. In winter, the lake is completely covered with snow and ice.

Lake Tbikeli is home to the Caucasian newt, which is included in the Red Book. This unique species makes the lake especially interesting for nature lovers and biologists.

The route to the lake starts from the valley south of Akhoseyla and goes west to Mount Khino. The trail is clearly visible and runs along the slope. Then it crosses the southern slope of Mount Khino and descends along the ridge connecting Mount Khino and Sarbiela. The route continues to the southern ridge of Mount Sarbiela, from where it becomes possible to overcome different sections on the way to the lake. Along the way, you can use a hut that serves as a shelter in case of bad weather, and there is also a water source. The trail leads to the Narusala mountain range and approaches the lake from its western slope, passing through forest and bushes. For convenience, it is recommended to cover your head and use an improvised mask to avoid contact with insects. You can set up tents on the shore of the lake. There are magnificent views of the surrounding nature, but there are no water sources nearby, so it is worth filling up your vessels at the hut. The place is great for watching the sunset.
