Machakhela Historical and Ethnographic Museum in the village of Zeda Chkutuneti
- Description
The museum, founded in 1984, is a real treasure of the history and culture of the village of Akhasheni. Housed in a former mosque, our collections contain over 774 unique items that celebrate the site's rich history. Archaeological finds, numismatic treasures, objects of Adjarian life and ethnography, as well as paintings and crafts by local artists are presented here. The museum also contains a variety of documentary materials and photographs that will tell you about life and events in Akhasheni over the years.
We are pleased to welcome you every day, except Saturday and Sunday, from 10:00 to 18:00. Entrance tickets are available at the following prices: 1 GEL for schoolchildren and students, 2 GEL for adults. We also provide free entry for children under 6 years of age, staff of Georgian and foreign museums, ICOM members (presenting a card with ID), people with disabilities (with a valid ID) and refugees.
The museum actively participates in the cultural life of the region, organizing periodic exhibitions of museum collections in schools and other cultural institutions. We also offer educational programs such as “Learning about the history of our village”, “Teacher-tour guides” and “Lesson in the Museum” to bring the history and culture of Akhasheni as close as possible to our visitors.
