Larashi Castle in Lentekhi
- Description
Larashie Castle, located at the entrance to Lentekhi, is an archaeological site of the Middle Ages. The castle is located on a rocky cape about 20 meters high, in the middle of the Hledura and Lascadura gorges. Despite the fact that it is currently preserved in the form of ruins, the castle retains its historical significance and attracts lovers of antiquity and architecture.
During archaeological excavations on the territory of the castle, fortification and agricultural buildings from different periods were discovered, including nine large and small warehouses. Among the finds are a jug, a round hand mill, fragments of the walls of a pot, deer antlers and ceramic pipes from the 17th century. On the south-eastern side of the hill you can see fragments of an ancient fence, to which a narrow, steep path leads.
In the upper part of the hill, on the so-called “roof”, fragments of many warehouses have been preserved, in some of which the walls reach a height of 1-2 meters. In the center of the castle there is an important landmark - a stone well (or charo). The castle ends in the north-west with a circular wall up to 6 meters high, built from various materials: cobblestones, flat stones, large slates and thick layers of varka.
On the territory of the castle there was also the Castle Gate Church. In this church a tricuspid icon of the Savior with the image of the archangels Michael and Gabriel was placed, which today is kept in the Church of the Archangels of Scaldi.
