Abandoned cable car station "Chavchavadze" in Chiatura
- Description
The abandoned station of the Chavchavadze cable car in Chiatura is located near the cultural center of the city. This station is a significant historical and engineering heritage site, famous for its frescoes depicting Soviet heroes. Before renovation in 2021, the cable car included 10 lines of passenger cable cars and 2 lines for transporting manganese, with a total length of more than 6 km. A shining example of USSR engineering, the rope system was actively used for decades until it was suspended in 2016 due to wear and tear.
In September 2021, the French company Poma completed a major overhaul of the cable car, returning it to its modern appearance and ensuring safety and comfort for passengers. Today, the renovated cable car is an environmentally friendly mode of transport that allows residents and guests of Chiatura to enjoy scenic views of the city and its surroundings from above. The cable car is not only a convenient way of transportation, but also a unique opportunity to touch the industrial history of Georgia.
A visit to this location is recommended for anyone interested in the engineering achievements of the Soviet period, as well as for those who want to get an unusual experience of observing the city from above. Tourists, researchers and historians will find many interesting details and inspiration for their projects and research here. This object evokes admiration not only for its historical significance, but also for its modern updated functionality.
